    VBA (Visual Basic for Application) — inner programming language of Microsoft Office.

    VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) an association of standards in the sphere of video and electronics.

    VFAT (Virtual File Allocation Table)file extension of the FAT system designed for storage of long file names (the traditional FAT is limited to names in the 8.3 format – 8 symbols for the file name and 3 symbols for its extension).

    Virus— programs penetrating computers and IT systems in different ways, causing effects ranging from simply annoying to destructive and irrecoverable.

    Virus constructor— a harmful program designed for creation of new viruses without any programming skills, as it has an interface enabling to select the characteristics of the created harmful software: type, weapon, files for infection, encrypting, polymorphism, etc.

    Virus Signature File— a file enabling antiviruses to detect viruses.

    VGA (Video Graphics Array) — graphic adaptor enabling to display 16 colours with 640x480 resolution. Uses analogue chrominance signals enabling to get almost an infinite quantity of color shades.

    VLB (VESA Local)32-digit local bus designed for connection of a high-performance video card on the computers based on ISA bus. Later other devices appeared for this bus. The dependence on the processor frequency and limitation of the number of connectors (up to 3) made its wide use harder. It was completely substituted by PCI bus.

    Volume— a hard disk section or a link to entire hard disk. This term is used in relation to many networks where disks are shared.

    VRAM (Video Random Access Memory)— a RAM memory type, reading and recording to which can be carried out in parallel. Thus, it widely applied in video cards, taking its name after them.

    Vulnerability— security faults and holes in a program or an IT system utilized by viruses as ways of infection.
